These recent months, weeks, and days have brought about a new need for reflection. We’ve been forced to ask ourselves difficult questions about who we are, what we value and what we individually and collectively can do more of to better ourselves and our communities. I have always recognized the shared beauty that comes from connecting and listening to artists of diverse backgrounds while also striving to amplify female musicians. With that being said, there is no doubt in my mind that my musical taste wouldn’t be where it is today if it weren’t for black and female musicians in my life.
This playlist is dedicated to some of the many women who have empowered me, comforted me, and helped me find my voice over the years, as a singer in my earlier years to transitioning into the business side of the industry.
It is an absolute necessity to hear the struggles, the stories, and the voices of black women and WOC and I’d like to thank each and every one of these musicians on this playlist for letting me into their homes and hearts.
